The Government of Canada has established child support guidelines that are applicable throughout the country. The Federal Child Support Guidelines apply to orders under the federal Divorce Act and under the provincial Family Services Act. The Guidelines also apply to divorced or separated parents seeking to vary a child support order made under the Divorce Act or the Family Services Act.

These Guidelines provide an objective calculation of child support orders and establish a standard of support for all Canadian children.

Support payment amounts are calculated in regards to the payor's annual income, the number of children and the province/territory of residence of each parent. Child support may be adjusted in special circumstances.
